"If Only" Disease


When was the last time you met someone who was truly at peace with who they were and the circumstances they find themselves in? The majority of people suffer from If Only disease; If only I had more money.  If only I had a new car or new house.  If only I could find the right person and be married. What would it take to make you completely content?  Most of us tend to see the negative side of life and fail to count the blessings God has bestowed on us.  We all make choices; we can choose to be happy no matter the circumstances or we can be unhappy regardless of our situation.  I heard of a billionaire who was being interviewed. "You seem to have acquired a bountiful fortune.  Are you happy?"

"No", replied the billionaire.

"What would it take to make you happy?"

"Just a little bit more," was his reply.

Would all of us be happy if we had just a little bit more?

Wouldn't it be nice if we could be like Paul , probably writing from prison, when he said :

"I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.  I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength." Philippians 4:11-13 NIV
