The day after posting about the spider spinning the web
outside my kitchen window, I was again looking out that window. The web was gone and the spider was
gone. Assuming my husband had made short
work of Mr. Spider with either a broom or some spray, I questioned him.
“Did you kill Mr. Spider and get rid of his web?” I
inquired.
Looking out the window, he replied,
“No, sure didn’t.”
The next morning, there was Mr. Spider carefully floating
from limb to limb spreading his silky web as he went. Within a short time, Mr.
Spider’s web was back in place and Mr. Spider had taken residence in wait of
some unsuspecting, but tasty treat.
This morning, I looked out the window again fully expecting
Mr. Spider to be having his breakfast of bugs and flies.
“Okay, this is very strange.
Mr. Spider is gone again and so are all signs of his web.” I informed my
husband as he walked by. “Why would this be happening?” I wondered. “One day
Mr. Spider is there busily crafting his web; next day there is no sign of him.
I wonder if he has given up? ” My husband didn’t seem to be nearly as concerned
about Mr. Spider’s whereabouts as I.
Now I feel sure that Mr. Spider didn’t just disappear those
days I didn’t see him. I’m pretty
certain that he was resting in the bush below perhaps drawing out the plans for
his next mode of entrapment. He was there all the time, but hidden from view.
Isn’t this just like Satan; always lurking in the background
just out of site so that we will not know when he plans to attack. But, we know he will. Just because Satan
wasn’t able to snare us with his last move, he will not give up. He will continue to maneuver until he hits
upon just the right temptation for each of us.
What is your weakness?
Where can Satan get a foothold in your life? Just like Mr. Spider, you can bet Satan has
not given up. He is lying in wait for
your moment of weakness. The good news
is this; we have a Savior Who is there to defend us from the evil one. All we need to do when Satan knocks on our
door is ask our Lord to answer.
“Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He
prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8
