The other night our facilitator ask this question: "Is there something you did when you were small that was wrong and you never confessed it to anyone?"
Few could remember doing anything wrong when they were small. But, one of our members told of a time when he was a member of a group of men who helped encourage prisoners who had just been released. He said he asked them to take pen and paper in hand and write a letter to someone they had wronged. He encouraged them especially to write to their fathers. Confessing the sins they had committed that were known only to them and God, had a freeing affect on them. Another shared that she had committed a wrong doing but had never confessed to her parents that wrong. Her parents had passed away but that dear lady made a trip to their resting place; knelt down and confessed that sin. What a freeing experience that was to her.
Confession is good for the soul. When a sin is acknowledged and
confessed, it frees the soul. It says to God that you know you have
sinned; you want to be free of that sin and you have put away pride in
order to do so. True, God knows all of our sins but He wants us to
recognize them for what they are and confess them in order for our lives
to be clean once more.
"But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive you your sins too.” Mark 11:25 (TLB)
Is there someone you need to ask for forgiveness; someone you have been spreading gossip about; someone you just really don't like for whatever reason? In order to make things right between us and our Lord we need to rid ourselves of the sin or unforgiveness. It's time to move on in life without carrying the burden of an unconfessed sin around with you.
Think about it.................
