"For I will see the rainbow in the cloud and remember my eternal promise to every living being on the earth.” Genesis 9:16-17 TLB
Most of us remember from the time we were small hearing the bible story of Noah and the ark. Still yet,we picture in our minds all the animals lined up two by two waiting to enter the ark. It was a neat story; especially if it was told by someone using a flannel board and cut outs of animals. As children, had we really considered the idea that the whole world was covered in water and people and animals were dying in the swirling waters, it might not have been such an intriguing idea.
God had destroyed sinful man by way of a flood. His covenant in Genesis
assures us that all human beings and all living things are loved by God
yet, He abhors sin. His way of ridding the earth of sinful was by
wiping out all but a few via the flood and beginning again.
The rainbow is mentioned numerous times in the bible. One of those times is John's vision of Heaven showing yet another rainbow this time circling the throne of God.
" Great bursts of light flashed forth from him as from a glittering diamond or from a shining ruby, and a rainbow glowing like an emerald encircled his throne." Revelation 4:3 TLB
I'm not a theologian but could it be the rainbow John saw was just a reminder that God had not forgotten His promise in Genesis because if God makes a promise, He keeps His promise?
Just as God promised to never destroy the earth by floods, He also made another promise:
"She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21 NIV
God chose to save the righteous from death in Noah's time. And, He chooses to save the righteous in the end times if we accept His Son to be our Savior.
"For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son so that anyone who believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16 TLB
