The religious leaders in the time of Christ felt they were doing the
right thing. They were abiding by the laws that had been set up for
them. They were under Roman law and were quick to enforce it. When
Jesus came on the scene and made it known that He was the Son of God;
began ignoring the laws, the religious leaders were quick to find a way
to get rid of Him. Thus, the mock trial and Jesus crucifixion.
" There is a way that appears to be right,
but in the end it leads to death." Proverbs 14:12 NIV
No doubt those Romans felt they were right. After all, this was the
law that had been in affect for years. Satan was alive and well then
just as he was in the Garden of Eden. He blinded the eyes of these men.
Muslims and other religions other than Christianity believe they are
right. After all, these religions go back many centuries. As for
Muslims, they believe God is revealed through Muhammad and his teaches
override any other. Could Satan have blinded their eyes also.
It
must be difficult for Muslims to accept the rule of a Christian nation
since for centuries they were abiding by the laws that had been set up
for them by Muhammad and they had been ruling in the Middle East over
populations, including Christians. It is appropriate in their minds,
therefore, for Muslims to be ruling over Christians. Here again, Satan
has blinded their eyes.
We know that Satan realizes who God is.
He realizes that his time is short on this earth and he knows his fate.
So, he is working doubly hard to gather everyone away from the one he
knows is the One True God.
It is my feeling that we need to get
our hearts right with God and then pray much for not only His
protection, but His will; particularly in regard to our government
leaders. We know God is not the author of confusion; He will guide those
in government who are willing to be guided. We need to pray for the
salvation of unbelievers and thirdly, we need to check the facts before
passing on information that might be erroneous. This I certainly
something I need to do.
C. S. Lewis, in "Mere Christianity" said
this : “Suppose one reads a story of filthy atrocities in the paper.
Then suppose that something turns up suggesting that the story might not
be quite true, or not quite so bad as it was made out. Is one’s first
feeling, `Thank God, even they aren’t quite so bad as that,’ or is it a
feeling of disappointment, and even a determination to cling to the
first story for the sheer pleasure of thinking your enemies as bad as
possible? If it is the second then it is, I am afraid, the first step in
a process which, if followed to the end, will make us into devils. You
see, one is beginning to wish that black was a little blacker. If we
give that wish its head, later on we shall wish to see grey as black,
and then to see white itself as black. Finally, we shall insist on
seeing everything - God and our friends and ourselves included - as bad,
and not be able to stop doing it: we shall be fixed for ever in a
universe of pure hatred.”
Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could
all live like we did as little children; protected and loved by our
parents and family? Wouldn't it be great if all we had to be concerned
about was when dinner would be served rather than if we had anything for
dinner? We don't live in Alice's Wonderland. Instead we live in a
world of confusion, hatred, lying, stealing, and killing.
Our only hope is in Him.
But, that should be enough.............
