Little Treasures
I have a white, three tiered jewelry box lined with soft, red velvet that is very much worn now. I treasure it because it was given to me by my husband almost 55 years ago when we had our first Christmas together. Inside, I have little things that mean a lot to me: a heart with my name on one side and his on the other. I wore it on a now tarnished chain when we were dating. There is the little pink and white bracelet with the letters of our last name. It was placed on #2 daughter's arm at the hospital as soon as she was born. There is a POW bracelet purchased in the early seventies (http://www.thewall-usa.com/bracelet.asp) and a bracelet passed down to me by a g-g-aunt. My mother's wedding ring is there along with some earrings that an aunt, who passed away many years ago, wanted me to have. There are old charm bracelets purchased at different vacation locations and a few other things. I love opening that old jewelry box and reliving the memories that come with each little treasure.
But Jesus warned us in His Sermon on the Mount not to lay up treasures here on earth but to lay up treasures for ourselves in Heaven. "But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:21 What are your treasures and where are you storing them?
