"When you learn to tell time, we'll get you a watch." my daddy said one day as I looked longingly into the jewelry case at the jewelry store. So, I worked very hard to learn. I would check the alarm clock by my parent's bed, and watch the second hand go round as it clicked off the minutes on the clock that hung in our kitchen. And I drew clocks showing different times of day until I finally had it mastered.
Daddy found it at a pawn shop and knew it was just what I needed. A beautiful Mickey Mouse watch with a red plastic band. I wore that little watch , not even wanting to remove it to take a bath. It was set with the big hall clock at school and I knew exactly when the recess bell or lunch bell would ring. I knew when my mother said be back home from a friends at a certain time so there was no excuse for tartiness. There are watches today that can do a lot of things besides telling time; some have calendars, alarms; some even "talk"to you. My little watch was simple with only an hour and minute hand.
A watch can tell us a lot of things. But, one thing it cannot tell us is when our Lord will return for those of us who are Believers. Are you waiting and watching for His return?
