Sheltered in His Arms

When our girls were babies, occasionally there would be a time they were ill or teething and it seemed their crying would never cease. When nighttime came and they would finally sleep, I would fall into bed completely exhausted. When in the wee hours their crying would begin again. I would drag myself out of bed, pick them up and try to comfort them.  As their crying continued, their dad would get up and take them in his arms.   He would walk with them, holding them close and singing quietly in his deep, base voice, and saying "Daddy's here; it's okay". Within minutes they would be sound asleep. He would lay them down and come back to bed.

There is just something about a father's arms; his calmness; his love. I like to think that when I am out of sorts, crying out in my heart for peace, that my Heavenly Father takes me gently in His arms and begins to walk with me, holding me close and whispering to me, "I'm here; it's okay" and like the old song says I am "Sheltered in the Arms of God " and I can rest there.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls" Matt. 11:28-29
