Children Are A Gift From God

"What do your children think of when they think of you? Every day we are leaving our fingerprints on our kids. What do we want our children to think of when they think of their parents? " Melanie Chitwood

I am so fortunate to have had Christian parents. I looked up to both of my parents as I was growing up. Oh, there were times when, like most teenagers, I thought they were too strict. I wasn't allowed to do some of the things my friends were allowed to do. But, now, as a parent of grown daughters and grown grandchildren, I can more easily understand why my parents did what they did.

Children are a gift from God. God only lent them to us to enjoy and to raise in His likeness. We are not to be our children's best friend, they have friends their own age to fill that need. But, we are to teach them by example to be kind, loving adults. We leave our fingerprints on our kids, as Melanie Chitwood said.

What are you teaching your children? What kind of fingerprints are you leaving? When you leave this earth what will your children remember about you? Do you want your children to be the kind of parent you are?

"Write these commandments that I’ve given you today on your hearts. Get them inside of you and then get them inside your children. Talk about them wherever you are, sitting at home or walking in the street; talk about them from the time you get up in the morning to when you fall into bed at night. Tie them on your hands and foreheads as a reminder; inscribe them on the doorposts of your homes and on your city gates." Deuteronomy 6:6-9 The Message
